FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cakes Concealed Carry?

Cakes Concealed Carry, affectionately known as "Cakes" is a women-owned brand designing stylish, discreet handbags built specifically for concealed carry. Our bags are engineered to safely carry firearms while blending seamlessly into everyday outfits. There is no tactical look and no compromise between rapid deployment of your firearm and keeping your look discreet and feminine.

Cakes crossbody bags are designed to stay on your body at all times, much like traditional on-body or appendix carry. You can eat at a restaurant, drive, sit, stand, or use the restroom without needing to remove your bag. This consistent on-body carry is one of the reasons many firearms instructors recommend Cakes as a safer alternative to off-body carry options.

Cakes is also a complete system of carry. In addition to the bag itself, we offer purpose-built accessories such as waist chains, adjustable belts, and key fobs that work together to make daily carry more secure, comfortable, and intuitive.

Why the name Cakes?

The name Cakes comes from our founder, Tamkin Collins. For years, her nickname was "Tammy-cakes" thanks to the very honest and lighthearted truth that she was blessed with a little round tush, affectionately described as "cake" Instead of shying away from it, she leaned in.

That idea evolved into something bigger. Women have always been cheeky in leaving things to the imagination, concealing their cakes just as much as they conceal their firearms. What we carry, whether it is junk in the trunk or a responsibly carried firearm, is nobody else’s business.

From there, the wordplay grew naturally. The sweet, feminine nature of desserts became the naming inspiration for our bags as well as our colorways. Madeline, Millie, Tuxedo, Chiffon, Eclair, and more. Sweet on the outside, serious on the inside.

How do I choose a bag style?

Choose your style based on how you plan to wear the bag and what fits your daily routine.

The Madeline and Chiffon are our leather classics. They are structured, polished, and designed to blend seamlessly into everyday outfits while remaining discreet.

The Millie offers the same visual silhouette as the Madeline but is made from water-resistant nylon with leather trim, making it a more athletic and durable option that works especially well for range days, travel, or more active use.

The Tuxedo is the largest crossbody we offer and features a thicker shoulder strap with a more gender-neutral aesthetic. It is ideal for customers who want a bolder look or need additional stability and capacity.

All Cakes bags are designed around concealed carry first and styled to suit different lifestyles and preferences.

How do I choose a bag size (Compact vs XL)?

Bag size selection is primarily driven by firearm fit and how much you prefer to carry day to day.

The Madeline size class is tailored for subcompact firearms and minimalist carry. The Madeline bag measures approximately 8 inches tall by 5.6 inches wide and is designed around a rapid-access pull-strap system for a one-step draw. This size works well if you primarily carry a subcompact pistol and a few daily essentials.

If your firearm is larger, you can still carry comfortably using a Madeline XL bag. The XL size class is designed to accommodate larger pistols and tactical setups while maintaining the same concealed carry principles.

Common subcompacts that fit the standard Madeline size include models such as the Glock 43, Sig Sauer P365, Springfield Hellcat, and similar firearms.

For larger pistols, optics, or lights, the Madeline XL provides additional clearance and flexibility.

Please note that the holster you use affects overall fit. If you plan to use a holster other than the included nylon trigger guard holster, you must measure both the firearm and the holster together and ensure the combined dimensions fall within the listed fit thresholds.

For detailed firearm compatibility, measurements, and draw guidance, please refer to our Firearm Fit and Draw page:
https://cakesconcealed.com/pages/firearmfitanddraw

There is not enough room for all my stuff

Cakes crossbody bags are intentionally minimalist to keep weight low and draw access consistent. If you need more space for daily items, we recommend a larger format such as the Eclair tote bag.

Which firearms fit in Cakes bags?

Firearm fit is based on overall dimensions, not just the model name. Please measure your firearm before purchasing.

If you are using the included nylon trigger guard holster, measure the raw slide length of your firearm. If you are using a different holster, measure the firearm including the holster.

You should also measure overall height, including any optic or extended magazine, as this affects clearance during the draw.

Compact size examples include Glock 42, Glock 43, Glock 26, Sig Sauer P365, Sig Sauer P238, Sig Sauer P938, Springfield Hellcat, S&W M&P Shield EZ, Ruger LCP Max, Ruger LCP II, Ruger LC9s, Kimber Micro 9, Kimber Micro .380, Taurus GX4, Beretta APX Carry, Beretta Pico, Walther PPS M2, Walther PPK, and S&W 642 Airweight.

XL size guidance: Madeline XL bags are designed for larger pistols and tactical setups, with a maximum overall length of 9 inches and maximum frame height of 6 inches. Red dot optics are compatible if total height remains under 6 inches. Weapon-mounted lights or lasers are compatible if total length remains under 9 inches.

For exact measurements and draw guidance, please refer to our Firearm Fit and Draw page:

Is a holster included with my bag?

Yes. Every Cakes bag includes a basic nylon trigger guard holster so customers are never tempted to carry unholstered. This provides safe retention and immediate usability out of the box.

Can I use a different holster inside the bag?

Yes. Many IWB holsters can be used inside a Cakes bag as long as the holster fully covers the trigger guard, provides proper retention, and mounts securely to the internal hook-and-loop panel. Always test your setup with an unloaded firearm before live carry.

Can I use the gun compartment for non-firearm items?

The concealed compartment is designed specifically for a firearm and, if needed, a magazine or emergency items. We do not recommend using the gun compartment for everyday items, as loose objects can interfere with trigger coverage or draw consistency.

How do I get a Kydex holster?

We offer Kydex holsters through trusted partner manufacturers. These holsters are custom-molded to specific firearms and sold separately.

Can I carry without a holster?

No. Carrying without a holster is unsafe and not recommended under any circumstances.

Will the bag open if I am running or jumping?

No. Cakes bags are engineered to remain closed during normal movement. We have had customers involved in motorcycle accidents who fell and rolled multiple times, and the firearm remained securely holstered while the purse stayed closed.

Are the magnets harmful to electronics or pacemakers?

Cakes bags use low-profile, handbag-grade magnets that are not strong enough to damage phones, credit cards, or everyday electronics. Customers with pacemakers should follow standard medical guidance and consult a physician if concerned.

How do I draw from the purse without flagging myself?

First, ensure you are wearing the bag correctly.

Right-handed users:
The shoulder strap should sit on your right shoulder, with the purse resting on your left hip. Use your left hand to pull the emergency access tab while your right hand draws the firearm.

As you open the purse, continue pulling the emergency tab down and toward your left side. Once the firearm releases from the holster, your left hand will be fully clear and positioned to the left, while the firearm exits the bag angled safely away from your body.

Left-handed users:
The shoulder strap should sit on your left shoulder, with the purse resting on your right hip. Use your right hand to pull the emergency access tab while your left hand draws the firearm.

Pull the emergency tab down and toward your right side. As the firearm clears the holster, your right hand will be fully out of the way and the firearm will exit the bag angled away from your body.

We strongly recommend practicing with an unloaded firearm before live carry. Step-by-step visual demonstrations are available on our YouTube channel.

Can I switch the bag for right-handed or left-handed use?

Yes. Cakes bags are designed to support both right-handed and left-handed users. Setup is determined by how the bag is worn on the body and how the holster is positioned inside the bag. You can configure the bag to match your dominant hand without needing a different model.

What is the waist chain or adjustable waist belt for?

They add stability, reduce swinging, and improve draw consistency.

How do I measure for the correct waist chain size?

Waist chain sizing accounts for the width of the purse itself. The bag adds approximately 5 inches to the total circumference.

Use this formula:
Chain length plus 5 inches equals total waist fit.

Example:
A 30 inch chain fits approximately a 35 inch waist once the bag is added.

How to choose your chain size:
Choose based on your waist measurement and how much comfort room you want.

For reference, if your waist is 26 inches and you choose a 23 inch chain, the added 5 inches from the purse creates a 28 inch total fit. That leaves a couple inches of wiggle room for comfort.

If you are between sizes or prefer a looser fit, size up.

How do I adjust the waist belt?

If you are purchasing our adjustable waist belt, the leather slider loops allow adjustment from 22 inches to 44 inches.

There is no metal hardware. The leather slider loops hold with tension once adjusted.

Not recommended for high impact activity. During sprinting or running, the leather sliders can shift or loosen over time.

How long does the shoulder strap extend?

The shoulder strap measures 48 inches fully extended, plus an additional 6-inch diagonal distance from the top of the bag to the D-ring. This gives a total wearable length of approximately 54 inches to go around the body.

The strap is adjustable, allowing you to customize the fit to your preferred carry height and style.

What is your return policy?

What is your warranty?

30 Day Returns and Exchanges for Purses
We offer a no-questions-asked return or exchange within 30 days of delivery if you are unhappy with your purchase or if your firearm does not fit properly.

3 Month Repair Coverage (Cakes Covered)
For the first 3 months after delivery, Cakes Concealed Carry will cover eligible repair costs. Eligible repairs include stitching, seams, or other structural elements of the bag that fail under normal use.

If a repair is approved, we will provide a prepaid shipping label so you can send your bag back to us. Repairs are completed by a professional leather workshop, and your bag will be returned within approximately 3 to 4 weeks to allow time for transit and repair.

Please note:
This service is for repair, not replacement. A damaged bag cannot be exchanged for a brand-new model.
Damage caused by misuse, improper firearm placement, or forcing the bag beyond normal use is not covered. Our bags are carefully crafted leather products and must be handled accordingly.
We encourage customers to review our instructional videos to ensure proper use and care of their bag.

1 Year Repair Support (Customer Paid)
For up to 1 year from the date of purchase, we can assist in coordinating repairs beyond the initial 3 month coverage. The customer will be responsible for shipping and repair cost, but Cakes will help manage the logistics to make the process as seamless as possible.

How do pre-orders work?

Pre-orders reserve inventory from upcoming production runs. Estimated ship dates are listed on order confirmations and are never more than 10 weeks from order date. We aim to ship sooner whenever possible.

Where are Cakes bags made?

Bags are designed in the United States and hand made in small runs with trusted manufacturing partners in Bangladesh. Final inspection and fulfillment are handled by Cakes Concealed Carry.

What kind of leather do you use?

Our standard line uses 100% LWG-certified cowhide leather. Off-menu designs may include specialty materials such as buffalo hide, goat hide, crocodile, python, or synthetic fur.

What is the Off-Menu line?

Off-Menu is our limited-edition experimental collection originating from Project Gunway. These pieces are produced in very small quantities, often as one-of-one designs.

Most Off-Menu pieces are sold via auction and announced only through our newsletter and social media. Subscribing and following us is the best way to stay informed.

Care and Maintenance

How do I care for my leather bag?

Store in the dust bag when not in use. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or extreme heat. Clean gently with a dry or lightly damp cloth. Use leather conditioner occasionally as needed.

For a step-by-step walkthrough and additional care tips, watch our leather care video:
https://youtu.be/0kNyVxYfRVQ?si=kAy3t23P_hDerymg

What if my bag feels stiff or the closure feels tight when new?

Leather bags can feel firm when new. This is normal and part of the break-in process. With regular use, the leather will soften and the closures will ease while maintaining their structure and security.

Can I fly with a Cakes Concealed Carry bag?

Yes, with an important caveat. Cakes bags themselves are standard handbags and may be carried like any other purse. However, no firearms or ammunition are allowed in the passenger cabin of commercial flights.

If you plan to use your Cakes bag while traveling by air, it is your responsibility to ensure that all contents of the bag are compliant with airline, TSA, and local regulations. Firearms and ammunition must be transported separately and in accordance with all applicable laws and airline policies.

Will the bag set off metal detectors or security scanners?

Cakes bags contain standard handbag hardware and magnets. As with most handbags, they may set off metal detectors depending on sensitivity. This varies by location and screening equipment.

Do Cakes bags work for left-handed users?

Yes. All Cakes bags are designed to support both right-handed and left-handed users. The bag orientation and draw method can be configured based on your dominant hand, as outlined in our draw instructions.

Are Cakes bags waterproof or weatherproof?

Leather bags are not waterproof, but can be easily wiped dry if you encounter some rain or a splash. The Millie bag is made from water-resistant nylon but is not submersible. All bags should be protected from prolonged exposure to heavy rain or moisture.

Will the magnets damage credit cards or hotel key cards?

Cakes bags use very strong magnets, but they are positioned only at the lip of the purse. Direct, prolonged contact with the magnet can demagnetize credit cards or hotel key cards.

Wallets, phones, and everyday items are not stored in direct contact with the magnet area, so normal use does not pose an issue. As with any magnetic closure, only sustained, direct contact with sensitive cards could cause interference.

Why is the gun compartment separate from everyday items?

The concealed compartment is intentionally separated to ensure safe trigger coverage, consistent draw orientation, and reduced risk of interference from personal items. This design prioritizes safety and reliability.

Why are Cakes bags minimalist inside?

Minimalist interiors reduce weight, limit shifting, and help maintain a consistent draw. Everyday items are carried in exterior pockets to keep the concealed compartment dedicated to the firearm and emergency items only.

How much weight can the shoulder strap support?

Cakes shoulder straps are designed to support the weight of a loaded compact firearm and daily essentials under normal use. Excessive overloading is not recommended.

Can I replace or change straps, waist chains, or belts later?

Yes. Many Cakes straps, waist chains, and belts are interchangeable or replaceable. Availability depends on the model and accessory type, and additional accessories may be purchased separately.

Do you offer gift wrapping or discreet packaging?

We do not offer gift wrapping at this time. Our standard packaging does not indicate concealed carry or firearm-related branding. Packages include only our cheeky tagline, “sweet on the outside, serious on the inside.”

If you require additional discretion, we recommend checking with your local gun store or shooting range. Many offer concierge receiving or pickup services for little to no cost to help keep purchases discreet.

Do you offer gift cards?

Yes. Digital gift cards are available and can be used toward any eligible purchase.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. The easiest way to check is to enter your full shipping address at checkout. If your country is accepted, available shipping options will appear based on the carriers we use.

Customers are responsible for all import duties, taxes, and tariffs imposed by their country. We recommend reviewing your local import regulations before placing an order.

What should I do if my order is marked delivered but missing?

If your order is marked delivered but you have not received it, please contact our support team as soon as possible so we can assist with next steps. inbox@cakesconcealed.com
